The honor of being the fifth largest city in the great state of Oregon goes to Hillsboro. The esteemed county seat of venerable Washington County Hillsboro is still considered perhaps unfairly a suburb of Portland. The moist temperate climate created a suitable environment for fishing hunting subsistence farming all of which the Atfalati tribe native to the region exploited. It was not until 1842 that the first Europeans bothered to settle in the region. By 1910 2,000 people called Hillsboro home. By 1950 that number had risen to 5,000. Today Hillsboro claims approximately 89,000 residents.
For many residents visitors the most striking feature of Hillsboro is the number of parks that permeate the city. Currently there are more than city 23 parks two multi sport complexes the Shute Park Aquatic within city limits. The verdant splendor of the city is hallmark of the Pacific Northwaest stands out as a one of the best kept cities in Oregon.
The city was bathed in even more green with the completion off the Reserve Vineyards Golf Club. This 36 hole course is one of the most lauded course in the region having played host to the annual Champions Tours JELD WEN Tradition from 2003 until 2006. to say that Hillsboro is golfer's paradise may be overstating the case but in addition to the Reserve Vineyards there is the Meriwether National Golf Course the McKay Creek Golf Course the Killarney West Golf Club the Rock Creek Country Club so on so forth.
A seasonal attraction to Hillsboro is the annual Fourth of July Parade. This home spun spectacle is the second largest Fourth of July celebration in the state. Additionally the city hosts the largest air show in the state the Oregon International Airshow. The city swells with visitors spectators during both events providing an additional economic boon.
